Behind The Design: Black Lives Matter
2020 was the arrival of a pivotal moment in our time. Amid a global pandemic, a racial uprising unlike anything seen since the civil rights movement of the 1960s enthralled the nation.
Why is this happening? Why is this happening, again? Why is racism so pervasive? Why do they hate us, many asked? While we may never know the answers to those questions and more, we did as believers do and turned to the Father.
At God Be Goddin’, we believe that justice flows from the heart of God (Psalm 99.4, Isaiah 61.8). We believe that justice is love in action. And that justice is what love looks like when it faces the problems its neighbors face.
Although many have ignored justice as it relates to racial relations in America, and some have even tried to exact their own measure and standard of justice, justice is still what God requires of us. It matters to Him.
Among other issues and people groups, we believe that the God that left the 99 sheep for the one is the same God that believes Black lives matter.
We created this design as a reminder to those who would say and act otherwise, and to exhort our brothers and sisters that we too are made (and valued) in the image of God.
Justice is not just some social movement or agenda but is what God requires of us for all lives and all things that matter to our God. Because they should matter to us too.
Micah 6.8: He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you except to be just, and to love [and to diligently practice] kindness (compassion), and to walk humbly with your God [setting aside any overblown sense of importance or self-righteousness]?
This design commemorates this embodiment to seek justice. Love compassion. And walk humbly with our God.
While the work goes far beyond a statement or t-shirt, and even those that would try to hijack or destroy this movement, we will remember that God is always the goal. And Black lives to matter to our God.
